Fallshaw have been making castors and wheels in Australia since 1920, across three generations of the same family, and they publish themselves as the country's only castor manufacturer. They are one of the two main suppliers behind the Lift Easy range, and their castor wall is the one you walk past first at our Cairns store on Scott St — swivel, fixed and braked, in rubber, nylon and polyurethane, sorted by size and load rating rather than stacked in a box out the back.

Our position

We hold the range rather than order it. That is the whole argument for buying a castor locally: the wrong one is not obvious from a website, and a trolley that is fine on smooth concrete will fight you on grating or a wet kitchen floor. Bring the old castor in, or the trolley itself, and we will match it on the wall — bolt pattern, wheel material, load rating and swivel or fixed. Fallshaw's range is far deeper than any shelf, so anything not on the wall can be brought in.

What we carry

The range, and how to pick from it.

Light and medium duty

The castors under office chairs, shop fittings, food service trolleys and light workshop gear. Fallshaw publish this part of the range at 30kg to 200kg a castor. Rubber and polyurethane treads for quiet running and floors you do not want marked.

Heavy duty

Where most workshop and warehouse trolleys land. Fallshaw's published rating for this group runs 50kg to 600kg a castor. Braked and unbraked, swivel and fixed, in the plate sizes that suit a frame already built.

Very heavy duty industrial

For loads that move rarely and weigh a great deal — Fallshaw publish 450kg to 3500kg a castor. Forged and fabricated housings, and wheel materials chosen for the floor rather than the load.

Wheels on their own

Not every job needs a whole castor. Wheels by the bin in pneumatic, solid rubber, puncture-proof, nylon and polyurethane, with the tyres and tubes to go with them — for barrows, trolleys and anything with a bearing that has finally given up.

Electrodrive and Liftmaster

Fallshaw's group also covers Electrodrive powered movers, for shifting hospital beds, linen and meal trolleys and wheelie bins without a person doing the pushing, and Liftmaster bin lifters and tippers. Why we stock Fallshaw

The honest take.

A castor is a cheap part that decides whether a trolley is usable. Buy on the wheel diameter and the tread rather than the price — a larger wheel rolls over a floor join instead of stopping dead at it, a hard wheel rolls easily and lasts but transmits noise and can mark a soft floor, and a soft one is quieter and kinder at the cost of capacity. The other thing people get wrong is capacity itself: divide the load across the castors that actually carry it, not all four, because an uneven floor will put most of the weight on two of them at a time.

Four things decide it: the total load and how it is shared across the castors that actually carry it, the floor it runs on, the wheel diameter, and whether you need swivel, fixed or braked. Bring the old one in and the bolt pattern answers half of it at the counter.
Do you stock the whole Fallshaw range?+
No, and nobody does — the published range is far deeper than any shelf. What is on the wall is the everyday range. Anything else can be brought in, so tell us what the job is rather than working from what you can see.
