Engine remapping and tuning, Townsville.
We are the Townsville agent for Diesel Tune, and we remap almost anything diesel — utes and 4WDs through to trucks, tractors and heavy equipment. Every tune is written for what the vehicle actually does. Two of the same model can leave with two different maps, because they are not doing the same job.
Performance and reliability go together here rather than one at the expense of the other. Towing is one of the jobs a remap is asked to help with, alongside everyday economy and how the vehicle feels to drive. The LandCruiser 200 Series and the BT-50 in the photographs are both Townlec work vehicles, and both have been remapped — the LandCruiser is the owner's own.

The tuning, and what it changes.
Eco tuning
Economy first, without giving up the way the vehicle drives. An engine that pulls more easily needs less throttle to do the same work, and that is where an economy tune looks for its gains. How much comes back depends on the engine and just as much on how it is driven, which is why nobody honest quotes you a figure up front.
Power tuning
Power and torque first, aimed at what the vehicle is being asked to do. Towing wants pulling power low down rather than a big number at the top, and a van behind a 4WD asks something different again from a tray full of tools. Throttle response is its own thing, and it is usually what people notice before anything else.
Model upgrades
Some machines leave the factory as a lower-spec version of hardware they share with the model above. Where the difference is in the software rather than the metal, that gap can be closed — so a machine already on site can do more of the job it is short of. It only reaches what is under the bonnet; it will not add equipment that was never fitted.
Off-road plant and machinery
Machinery that never sees a road is a different job from a road vehicle, and the emissions systems on it — DPF, EGR, AdBlue — are part of that work on off-road plant. On anything road-registered we do not touch them.
It changes the software, not the hardware
An engine is run by a control unit working off stored maps — fuelling, timing, boost and the limits set around them. Remapping replaces those with a revised set. Nothing is cut, drilled or bolted on, and the engine is mechanically the same afterwards.
It can be put back
A remap is not a one-way door. The standard settings can be restored, which matters if the vehicle is being sold, going back to a dealer, or simply was not what you were after.

What brings people in for one.
These are the situations a remap gets asked about, and the ones worth a phone call.
- There is a van or a boat behind it now, and it is working harder than it used to
- The fuel bill on a long run has become the thing you think about
- It feels flat off the mark, whatever the brochure said it would do
- A machine on site is a lower spec than the job actually needs
- It has a load in it every day and never gets an easy run
- You are about to buy something and want to know what can be done with it
Recognise a few of those? Bring it in and we'll test it.
Why bring it to us.
The tune comes from diesel specialists
Diesel Tune work through a network of agents across Australia and New Zealand, and in Townsville that is us. So what goes into your engine is not something we taught ourselves off the internet.
Our own vehicles are remapped
The owner's LandCruiser 200 Series and one of the work utes have both been through it. It is a fair question to ask a workshop whether they run the thing they sell, and the answer here is in the photographs.
The tune is written for your vehicle
Two of the same model can leave with two different maps. A tray-back doing town runs and a ute towing a van up the range are not asking the same thing of an engine, and the tune should not pretend otherwise.
We are auto electricians first
A vehicle with a running fault does not need a tune, it needs the fault found. Being a workshop rather than a tuning shop means we can tell the difference, and say so.
The rest of what the workshop does.
Remapping is one job the workshop does among several, and a vehicle in for one thing often needs a hand with another.
