Polaris GPS head units and rear vision cameras, supplied and fitted at the Townsville workshop. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the dash, reversing and side cameras where the blind spots are, and caravan kits for what is behind the van — wired in properly rather than run off the nearest convenient wire.

We run these units in our own work vehicles, and a couple of our staff have put them in their own cars — which is a better recommendation than anything we could write here. They have gone into plenty of customer and business vehicles as well, from Isuzus to Toyotas, so the fitment questions have usually been answered before you ask them.

What we do

The work, in detail.

Vehicle-specific head units

Polaris build units to suit the dash rather than a universal shoved into a bezel. Their published fitments include the Hilux N80 from 2015, the 70 Series Landcruiser from 2010, and Isuzu D-Max and MU-X — the D-Max covered across two units, 2012 to 2020 and 2020 to 2023. Toyota double-DIN and 9-inch Isuzu screens depending on the model.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Polaris list wireless CarPlay across the current range, with Android Auto wired on the vehicle-specific units and wireless on the universal ones. Your phone's maps, music and calls on the dash screen instead of stuck to the windscreen.

Universal and larger screens

Where there is no vehicle-specific unit, Polaris do a universal double-DIN with a 10.1-inch floating screen on an adjustable bracket, and a fixed 13-inch high-resolution Android unit. Worth talking through before you buy — screen size is decided by the dash, not by the spec sheet.

Reversing and side cameras

Complete rear vision kits for cars, utes, vans, SUVs and 4WDs. Side cameras where the blind spot is the problem rather than the reverse — Polaris describe them as making lane changes on the highway something you do with confidence rather than hope.

Caravan and trailer cameras

5-inch and 7-inch caravan kits. The 7-inch runs two views on the one dash monitor: a 45-degree lens for watching traffic behind you, and a 120-degree lens for backing it in. Anyone who has reversed a van onto a site knows which one earns its money.

Camera integration into the factory screen

Interface kits that put reversing, side and front cameras onto the screen the vehicle already has, instead of adding a second monitor to the dash. Tidier, and it keeps the factory look on a newer vehicle.

The install, not just the box

The reason a camera fails two years in is almost never the camera. It is a splice into the wrong circuit, a cable run through a door loom without a grommet, or a connector left where water finds it. Fused, run properly, and trimmed back so nothing rattles.

How it works

Will it fit, and what happens next?

Nobody can quote a head unit off a photo of the dash. Fitment depends on the vehicle, the year and what is already in it, so the order of things matters — we work out what suits before anyone spends anything.

1. Tell us the vehicle

Make, model and year, and whether anything has been changed in the dash already. That is what decides whether there is a vehicle-specific unit for it or whether a universal is the better answer.

2. Tell us what you actually want

CarPlay or Android Auto, wireless or wired, screen size, a reversing camera, side cameras for the blind spots, something for the van on the back. What matters to you narrows it faster than a catalogue does.

3. We check it is compatible

Fascia, harness, steering wheel controls, camera inputs and whatever the factory system is already doing. This is the step that gets skipped when a unit is bought online, and it is the one that turns a fit-out into a problem.

4. You get a quote

For your vehicle and the parts it actually needs, not a headline figure for a unit that turns out to need a fascia kit and a harness on top.

5. You decide

Nothing is ordered until you have said yes to the quote. If you would rather think about it, or price it around, that is fine — the quote is yours.

6. We order it in and fit it

The unit comes in for your job and goes in at the workshop. Fused, run properly, and finished so the dash looks like it left the factory that way.

Will a head unit fit my vehicle?+
Usually. Polaris build vehicle-specific units for the common utes and 4WDs — Hilux, 70 Series, D-Max, MU-X and others — and universal double-DIN units where there is no specific fit. Ring us with the make, model and year and we will tell you which one suits it.
Do they do Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?+
Yes. Polaris list wireless CarPlay across the current range. Android Auto is wired on the vehicle-specific units and wireless on the universal ones, so it is worth checking which matters to you before choosing.
Can I keep my factory screen and just add a camera?+
Often, yes. Camera integration interfaces feed a reversing, side or front camera into the screen already in the dash rather than adding a second monitor. It suits a newer vehicle where the factory fit-out is worth keeping.
Can you do a camera on a caravan or trailer?+
Yes. There are 5-inch and 7-inch caravan kits. The 7-inch shows two views at once — a wide lens for reversing and a narrower one for watching traffic behind you on the highway.
Can I buy a head unit myself and get you to fit it?+
Generally not. We fit the units we supply, which means we know the harness, the fascia and the camera inputs are right for your vehicle before anything comes apart. A unit sourced elsewhere is usually where the trouble starts — the wrong loom, a fascia that does not sit flush, or a camera input the unit will not take — and we would rather quote you the job properly than inherit that.
Do you do this on work vehicles and fleets?+
